Harnessing the Energy of the Moon

Working with the cyclical nature of the moon is an incredibly powerful practice but can seem overwhelming. What do you do, why, and when?  Today starts the Full Moon and the New Moon falls on Sunday, February 23.

Working with the monthly cycles of the moon provides a great opportunity to hold yourself accountable for the goals and intentions you set with yourself. As you work with the ebb and flow of nature take note of your emotions and reactions. Knowing these patterns can help you to better protect your energy and plan accordingly each month; beginning to work with the natural energy we feel from the moon instead of working against it. Learning when to go inward and when to plan or take action can be incredibly powerful for you as you manifest your desires

New Moon:

The New Moon is associated with new beginnings. During this time, it is ideal to manifest and set intentions. Try this new moon ritual:

  • First, disconnect and unplug. Put some soft meditative music on.  Turn off the distractions and set this time for YOU to create and harness your desires.
  • Clear and declutter.  Use sage or palo santo to clear the air of any stale or stagnant energy.
  • Meditate, dance, chant, anything that helps you connect with yourself.
  • Journal:
    • Write down your goals
    • What do you want? List ACTION steps to getting there.
  • Observe your Emotions
    • Notice your sleep patterns, if your emotions feel heightened or sensitive, do you feel energized or slightly drained?
  • Crystals for the new moon:
    • Aquamarine: Clarifies, clears confusion, promotes self-expression
    • Clear Quartz: the AMPLIFIER, enhances energy and thought
    • Citrine: To harness success, confidence, and abundance
    • Amethyst: for long term planning

Full Moon:

Harness that ENERGY! The full moon brings forth an incredible, powerful energy representing the completion and culmination of the moon cycle. Use this time to release and tune in.

  • Charge your crystals under the amplified energy of the Moon:
    • Set your intentions with your crystals (or essential oils, sage, meditation items, etc) and place them where they can get the maximum amount of moonlight throughout the night.
  • Reflect and Review the goals you set on the New Moon. What worked this cycle?
    • Release what no longer serves you: The full moon is a great time to evaluate what you need to let go of, what is no longer serving you.
  • Observe your Emotions
    • Once again, notice your sleep patterns, if your emotions feel heightened or sensitive, do you feel energized or slightly drained?
  • Crystals for the new moon:
    • Moonstone for balancing and grounding
    • Selenite:  for clarity and honesty when evaluating the success of your New Moon goals
    • Calcite: The Full moon can bring with it INTENSE emotions, use Calcite to help you balance these feelings.
    • Amethyst: As studies have found, it can take longer to fall asleep during the Full Moon, use Amethyst to calm your mind and aid in combating insomnia.

Make your Moon Rituals a practice you look forward to. Just like any spiritual practice, the most important part is to make it your own! As you begin to work with the lunar calendar, see what calls to you and go there!
