This personal growth soul work, this journey of knowing ourselves and bettering ourselves can sometimes feel like we’re on a hamster wheel of never ending, always necessary growth and change. For me, one of my personal & family mantra is to always focus on fun. Focus on the joy, love, and what excites you and lifts us up as a family. To me, I find success on this journey by committing to and caring about really embodying love in a way that matches that mantra.
But this work brings with it an increased level of self awareness. With that self awareness we can begin to see that the people around us often not only knowingly encourage and support us on our journey but unknowingly provide us with our best lessons.
There’s a role for everyone you meet, whether it be to build you up, support you, or even to test you and remind you of what still needs to be worked on, healed, or understood.
Subscribing to the belief that everyone in our lives is a lesson brings with it a unique opportunity for growth being presented to us through each experience. Each seemingly innocuous moment can be an opportunity to love more, or surrender control, to develop patience, understanding, compassion, a situation to believe in ourselves to stand up for our truth, or maybe to choose a different fight or different way of supporting another.
This belief can provide an incredible amount of insight into our deep rooted ideals, triggers, and help us to better understand and change our responses. It can also sometimes seem overwhelming and exhausting.
I still sometimes get a bit of “ugh when will I heal X completely, when will I stop doing Y.”
While meditating on this thought the other day and knowing that others probably feel the same way occasionally as well. I realized, we can begin to understand ourselves on an even deeper level when we look at the types of people we choose to surround ourselves with as well as our experiences with everyone we meet.
I value security, hard work, and persistence, and I see those traits in my husband. I am inspired by my friend’s spontaneity, excitement, and passion. The kindness and compassion I value the most is modeled for me by my own Mother.
We most likely want to spend time with people who we admire, are inspired by, or who make us feel good.
But when we look even closer at the people around us, they aren’t just incredible souls, they are reflecting back our own beautiful traits to us. They mirror to us the truth that the world we are creating around us is a direct reflection of the entire incredible universe of emotions and feelings living within us.
So the next time you get a little frustrated with this journey or down on yourself, take a moment to reflect on what values and traits you admire most about the people around you and then recognize those incredible traits WITHIN YOU.
Know that every bit of beauty, passion, courage, and compassion you surround yourself with resides deep within your spirit.
