There’s a common misconception that adding mindfulness to your life has to be hard. As a mom, the idea of adding even more to our plate can make a practice seem even more daunting. Luckily, mindfulness at its core just means you are present and aware and there are several ways to include that into your everyday life.
Somethings to consider when adding more mindful moments into your day:
Don’t overthink it. Mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated. Keeping it simple will help you stay consistent.
Add mindfulness to what you’re already doing. While our schedules may already be packed, there are always a few seconds to space for mindfulness, especially if you work it into things you already do on a daily basis like shower, leave your house, drive, use your wallet, chores, and etc.
Give yourself grace. Your mindfulness practice is never going to be perfect, and that’s okay. The most important part is that you show up, step into the present, and take a few moments to yourself, whatever that looks like.
Adding Simple Mindful Moments
Here are three ideas for adding a few mindful moments, stillness, and deep breaths to your day.
Take a Mindful Shower
Visualize the water cleansing your body of any tension, stagnant energy, or stress, see all that negative energy being washed away, right down the drain. Feel the water touch your skin, as it brings peace to your mind and body. As you cleanse your body, feel grateful and loving for each and every part of it. Before you exit the shower, stand in stillness for a breath and thank your beautiful body for all it does for you.
Create a Deep Breath Space in Your Car
Create a sacred space for breath in your driver’s seat. Times in the car can be extremely stressful between traffic, running late, back seat shenanigans, not to mention school pick up. Before you exit your car, take three mindful breaths. Pause in stillness just long enough for those three breaths to come naturally.
Put Your Affirmations in Your Wallet
Write your affirmations on a piece of paper to wrap around your credit card. Not only does writing down your affirmation trigger memory but how many times a day do we swipe our credit card? Use this opportunity to remind yourself of your goals and intentions.
